PRESTON

KRUG ROAD ADDITION

The scope of work on this project consisted of demolition of an existing two car garage and breezeway attaching the garage to the house. Plans called for a the construction of a new addition that included a new entrance covered by a captivating full front porch, a new laundry room, a new master suite including a private bathroom with tile walk-in shower, and a large walk-in closet. Also, plans call for a new oversized 2-car garage to be built and accessed through a hallway from the new addition. A full basement is under this new addition and with a new doorway cut out of the existing basement to join the two. The existing bulkhead was removed and new stairs to the addition basement were added, located in the new garage.

As part of the project, we remodeled a section of the existing house to build a new walk-in pantry next to the kitchen and to make space for the tile shower for the new Master Bathroom.

Color for the new vinyl siding was matched to the existing house as well as the new shingle color. Vinyl cedar impressions were added for accents on the front of the addition. Maintenance-free decking was utilized for the new porch. Beautiful landscaping, including a new paver walkway leading to both entrances and a concrete walkway in the back was constructed.

PLAINFIELD

STARKWEATHER ROAD NEW CONSTRUCTION

Beautiful Custom Built Home on some of the most precious scenery and landscape in Eastern CT. After building homes previously, the homeowners approached us with plans of what they wanted for their retirement home. Our designers adopted for this project the new building concept of "Aging in Place". Everything in this home was custom suited for their current and future lifestyles. The home consists of two master suites. The owners' master is located on the main floor while the second guest suite is located in the finished basement. Because this lot sloped towards a man-made pond, we were able to make the entire back wall of the home a walk out basement. A six foot French patio door exits to the rear of the home, facing the beautiful pond. Also, a workshop was built in the basement with double steel doors exiting to the rear of the home. Utilities are housed in a 10' x 10' nook that we created to keep the boiler, well tank and other mechanicals concealed. On the side of the utility room abutting the workshop is an exercise room for the homeowners to use and enjoy.

Main Floor - When you enter the home from the oversized two car garage, you enter a beautiful laundry room with an entire wall of Kraftmaid Cherry cabinets and a laundry sink with pull-out faucet. On the opposite wall is a large closet and pantry space. Then, you enter a gorgeous kitchen with more gorgeous cherry cabinets. There are innumerable accessories and options included in this kitchen. But you definitely cannot miss the GE Profiles appliances. The high end granite countertops especially the serving bar that opens up to the dining room are a sight to behold. Then, looking at the dining room, you see the vaulted Great Room with a custom-designed window setup on the gable end that overlooks the pond. When designing this home, it was essential that we capture views of the pond, which we accomplished with windows that stretch the eye to the ridge of the vaulted ceiling. The view is absolutely breath-taking. Also, located in the Great Room is a wood stove built into an alcove. This alcove has a tile floor and tile walls; a really nice feature to compliment the area.

The owner's suite consists of a private bathroom with a custom tile shower and glass door, comfort height Toto Drake toilet and a Kraftmaid vanity made of cherry wood with a custom granite vanity top. A large walk in closet with custom-designed shelving is accessed through the master bathroom.

The exterior of the home grabs you as soon as you pull up to the driveway. The main siding color is a light green and accented with darker green trim. The soffits and fascia are the same dark green color. The brown gutters create an earthy atmosphere to behold. A front porch leads to the main entrance and was built with maintenance-free materials. The entry door is a Masonite fiberglass door that was stained for a real wood look.

An 18' x 12' maintenance free deck is attached to the rear of the home and accessed by french doors located in the master suite and great room. A colored concrete pad was poured under the rear deck to compliment the color scheme of the home.

Through each phase of construction we used our "aging in place" concepts. Being the owner's are very active we wanted to prepare for later stages in life and so many of the designing, construction and preparations made for the home were done with this in mind. Some concepts include all 3'0" wide door ways, blocking for future grab/safety bars, levers for the doors instead of knobs, minimal curb for the master shower to allow a wheelchair or shower chair to be wheeled into the shower with little resistance.

A true custom build that we are very proud to have been a part of.

GROTON

CROSSWINDS DRIVE - ADDITION 1

The first addition we did this year at Crosswinds was for the construction of a new open living area located in the rear of the existing home. The addition spans 24' across the back and extends 16' out from the existing home. Working with the owners of this home we had one main concept in mind....open! In order to make this happen we had to remove 24' of the existing rear wall. Through extensive engineering and planning we installed a steel beam to support the weight of the second floor. It was not easy and required a ton of attention but we made it happen. The addition now became part of the existing living room and breakfast nook to create a very large open area that leads to the kitchen.

CROSSWINDS DRIVE - ADDITION 2

The second addition that we did this year at Crosswinds was for the demolition of the existing two story great room ceiling and roof and for the addition of a new floor system that created a second story and new lounge/study area. Again, a great deal of planning and engineering was required for this complex project. A new stair case had to be built that joined the existing stair case to the second floor and lead to the new room. Many many designs and ideas were considered for how to achieve this with headroom clearances, spacial requirements and other aspects played a very important role in deciding the best method. Aside from the engineering elements associated with this project, the fit and finish was just amazing. The siding needed to be matched, the roofing needed to be matched and the inside finish with decorative moldings, new hardwood floors, paint colors were absolutely breath taking.

And what a view of long island sound that was now created. Anyone who stepped foot in the new second story room was just blown away. Especially knowing what that space used to be. A true gem in our portfolio of projects.

SALEM

WEST ROAD - CUSTOM BUILD

This magnificent home build in nearby Salem, CT sits upon a healthy-sized lot set back from the road a little way.  Upon reaching the home, you are immediately captivated by its majestic figure. The front-facing gable ends provide the new construction with a homely feel, with many windows adorning its walls. The front covered porch provides a quiet retreat from the homeowners. As you enter the front door framed by sidelights, you set foot onto the natural oak hardwood floors, leading to a set of second floor stairs, the dining room, and a a short hall heading into the Great Room.  You then come to witness the grand gas fireplace surrounded by elegant tile.  Four large windows provide an excellent view of the back yard while also letting in vast amounts of natural light.  The flow of the home then takes you to the right, into the breakfast nook and then the kitchen.  The granite countertops envelop its three walls, centralized by a bent island with an overhang for the quick snack.  A sliding patio door leads out to a back deck which the homeowner has future plans for. Heading back through the Great Room brings you to the downstairs master suite. This roughly 200 square foot master bedroom is adjoined by a walk-in closet and master bath with walk-in tile shower. Traveling back around the central staircase providing access to both the basement and the second floor, you head upstairs to a central hall acting as a hub, all of the upstairs rooms branching from it. Immediately to your left is another full bath and bedroom, and just down the hall is yet another bedroom and the master suite.  Following the hall to its end, you come to the vast media room which stretches  to a massive bonus room located above the oversized 3-car garage.

There are many features nor readily visible that make this home a signature build of our company.  Nu-Wool Cellulose Spray Insulation by The Greensulators provides the walls and attic with an essentially air-tight seal. This home, unlike almost all others in the area is utilizing an air source heat pump with propane backup.  This system, developed by Goodman Manufacturing, provides both heating and cooling efficiency as well as space efficiency.

This beautiful custom home was designed exclusively by Erik's Design-Build and is constructed with the exceptional quality that has come to be expected from our builds.
